The world is facing an explosive and unprecedented aging of its population, of which Chile is no stranger. In this context, education, appropriate eating and habits play an important role in order to achieve a healthy aging, thus improving the quality of life of the elderly. To address the complex problems of aging different views and disciplines should be involved, because this is a process that covers the whole lifecycle and crosses the entire population.
The objective of the Interdisciplinary Research Program of Excellence in Healthy Aging (PIEI-IS) is to study, in an interdisciplinary manner, the aging process, generating basic and applied knowledge that will contribute to improving the quality of life of the people.
The program is structured in three lines of research: Chronic Diseases and Aging, Oral Health and Aging, and Well-Being and Aging.
The lines of research will address aging as the central focus, and influence diet and lifestyle, with a view to achieving the overall well-being of the people, using methodologies typical of basic and applied sciences, the program is expected to become a point of reference in the field of aging, attracting new research funds resources, which eventually will allow the Universidad de Talca to achieve leadership positions in this subject.
