UNIVERSITY WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE 2017 CONGRESS OF THE FUTURE
“WE ALL MAKE THE FUTURE” IS THE MOTTO OF THIS EVENT ABOUT REFLECTING ON THE GREAT ISSUES THAT PEOPLE CONSIDER ON A DAILY BASIS.
Decembre 22, 2016
The president of the University of Talca, Alvaro Rojas, expressed the commitment of our Institution to the Congress of the Future, the great event which will gather, during three days at our University, scientists of global relevance in a dialog with the Maulean citizens, on the great issues with which the community is today concerned and on their projection and impact in the times to come.
Under the slogan "We All Make the Future” the sixth version of this event, created by the National Congress in 2011 for the bicentennial, will be held. This year it will take place in seven regions and on January 11 it will be the Maule Region’s turn.
The sessions will take place in the Bicentennial Space and at the Curico Campus of our University, with lectures and panels.
President Rojas celebrated the event and he considered that "it is a good Christmas gift, good news for the Maule Region and that we welcome and support so that the citizens can have the possibility of comparing their points of view with the great men of science."
"The community must know that it is a congress in which prominent specialists of the world are able to speak in simple, in everyday language, about healthy life, aging, energy, the environment. These are issues that concern all of us: the young, homeowners, fathers and mothers, and we want to know how does the future look and what is the best way to build it and all that from what we can discuss today," he remarked.
Rojas also said that the University assumes the commitment to sustain this instance of dialog and reflection in the long term "because what is not permanent does not exist" and he added that "we are going to continue to support it, with scientists, with technology and infrastructure so that the regional citizens can have access to this debate."
Academic Vice President, Gilda Carrasco, and Director of Research, Ivan Palomo participated in the name of our University.
The Intendant, Pablo Meza, commissioned the organization of the Congress of the Future to the Council of Productive Development, with the support of the University of Talca and the Catholic University of the Maule Region, together with Corfo, and its launching was held at the new headquarters of the Regional Government.
Both Meza as Senator Juan Antonio Coloma, as also the president of the Corporation of Productive Development, Jaime Hermosilla; the President of our University, Alvaro Rojas, and the Academic Vice President of the Catholic University of the Maule Region, Claudia Concha, valued this space of reflection and the opportunity that it represents for the Maule Region to have access to discussing the major issues that transcend the ideological arena.
Pablo Meza thanked the collaboration with the initiative and when emphasizing its meaning he stated that "seldom times do the Regions have the opportunity to show the world their skills, talents and intelligence", talking about the participation of scientists from the mentioned regional institutions, together with other national and foreign speakers like Gianni Kovacevic; Bruno David; Alfonso Montuori and Jack Szostak, Nobel Prize of Medicine 2009.
As part of the program, there will also be a day specifically geared to the wine industry.
