MOBILE PHONE APP TO TEST KNOWLEDGE IN BIOLOGY

STUDENTS CREATED THE "LEARNING SCIENCES" COMPUTER PROGRAM AS A LEARNING RESOURCE TO SUPPORT STUDENTS FROM THE VIRTUAL HIGH SCHOOL.

April 11, 2017

"Learning Sciences" is the name of the application created by students from the School of Computer Civil Engineering, under the supervision of Professor Renzo Angles, which seeks to support the learning of Biology in school.

The program runs on the Android platform and is based on a "trivia" system, with multiple-choice questions and four levels covering all the topics included in the learning curriculum of 9th to 12th grades. In this way, the application provides an alternative for student to study through a user-friendly system that allows, by the responses to the questions, to know if the teaching delivered was internalized by the student. It also serves to prepare the University selection test (PSU) of science, since the type of questions and the format is very similar to that used by the PSU.

The application is integrated into the Virtual High School of the University, which possesses a large web platform full of the matters to study.

"This is a way to continue learning without the need to have an internet connection on a computer, but it can be used on any mobile device where the software is downloaded, because it works without the need to be connected," said Angles.

The academic explained that the program was developed basically for engineering students, with academic and didactic material given by the Virtual High School with the support of the Vice President for Undergraduates, which approved funds for teaching innovation.
