July 12, 2016
Under the coordination of our University, the two first degree programs of the new State Technical Training Center (CFT, Spanish) of the Maule Region will be imparted next year in Linares.
The announcement was made during the last work meeting held in the Maule Region’s capital by the regional Bureau for the installation of this public CFT. This initiative is part of the national network of quality, free-of-charge technical training centers that the current Government is promoting in the 15 Regions of the country, with the support of state universities that will help in the implementation phase.
The activity was carried out at the meeting room of the Academic Council of our Academic Institution, headed by the Intendant of the Maule Region, Pablo Meza and by President Álvaro Rojas.
Based on the feasibility study prepared by the Universidad de Talca - through the Planning Unit of the Pro rector’s Office -, the first degree programs imparted by the State CFT will be Agricultural Technician in Fruit-Growing and Administration Technician, for the productive areas of the Southern Maule Region and employability conditions in the area.
Intendant Pablo Meza highlighted the advances of this regional table on technical and pedagogical aspects, on the coming CFT building and the relevance of the degree programs offered. "They have to do with a regional view, with the satisfaction to our demands, with the productive characteristics of the Southern Maule area and the effort made by the Region to develop and promote the growth of the country (...) I congratulate the Universidad de Talca once more for their dedication, commitment and responsibility on these issues that are of regional and national interest", said the governmental authority.
President Rojas pointed out that the table worked for almost a year and a half and our Academic Institution provided background information on production needs and employability of technical programs demanded by employers and students. These correspond to the areas of the mechanical industry, agriculture, irrigation, administration and health.
"We have made a very solid proposal to the State Department of Education and it is now among the finalists State CFTs to be implemented starting in 2017-2018 in the city of Linares", he said, and he added that the Maule Region is among the first five regional centers to be constructed in the country.
He also pointed out that the UTALCA arranged the donation of two land lots where the new CFT will be built, with a surface of 15 thousand square meters.
In the same sense, Regional Deputy Education Secretary Rigoberto Espinoza, said that "with the help and coordination of the Universidad de Talca we want to start classes in 2017". He added that it is projected to have the new building ready in 2018 and that now the work is been done on the curricular grids of the first two programs that will get its first cohort of 50 students. In addition, he announced that the President of the State CFT of the Maule Region will be designate in November through the Higher Public Management system.
For his part, the Pro Rector of the UTALCA, Pablo Villalobos, explained that for the regional table to define that the training center would be built in Linares multiple studies were considered, based in indicators such as percentage of high school graduates in the southern macro area that go to the University, poverty indexes and the potential of the territory.
