Our Academic Institution was ranked among the five state universities with the highest number of research studies at the national level and among the three with the highest awarding of Fondecyt Projects funds. The data were revealed by a study carried out by Accion Educar that reviewed the number of scientific publications, the allocation of funds and the number of full-time professors with a master's or PhD degree in each of the 25 state and traditional universities.

According to the results of this evaluation, our Corporation and the Universities of Chile, Valparaiso, La Frontera and Santiago concentrate 79% of the total number of publications. For President Alvaro Rojas, "This shows our quality as an institution, we are on a par with a century-old university and us".

"In 36 years of history, we have managed to consolidate our position in research because we are interested in this as a strategic focus. We know the impact this has on the country and its future, and that is why we work day by day in this," he stressed.

For his part Academic Vice President Gilda Carrasco, who is at the head of the unit responsible for promoting basic and applied research within the University, said: "Thanks to research carried out by an academic body of excellence, committed to the generation of knowledge in many areas and the transfer of the products of the research into various areas of society, we get these results that fill us with pride". She added that "this is the product of a long-standing institutional policy that, every day, is reinforced to adapt to the changes and global issues".

According to the Accion Educar study, state universities published 273 articles on average per campus. However, in the case of the University of Talca, the concentration of publications per capita is much higher. In this regard Ivan Palomo, Director of Research of our Acaemic Institution, explained that this area "is pivotal in complex universities, is a condition, together with graduate programs. For the region and for the country, the existence of research studies is associated to knowledge, innovation and development, therefore, a better quality of life for the people".

High Impact

Between 2011 and 2015, the academics of the Corporation published more than 1300 quotable papers. 44.4% of them were carried out in international collaboration and 60% of the publications were included in Q1+Q2 magazines, which have high impact within the scientific community. Furthermore, 13.5% of the papers are published in journals considered of excellence according to the SJR ranking. Already in 2016, the University had positioned itself in three rankings as one of the top ten of Chile and this year it was ranked among the 35 best in Latin America, according to Times Higher Education.
