Faculty of Agricultural Sciences

We are pioneers in the training of agricultural engineers in the Maule region, who are nationally recognized for the quality of their training. Furthermore, through our research, we support the development of advances and technologies related to the agricultural sector.

Its beginnings date back to the 80s with the creation of the Agronomy program, and since then its classrooms have trained more than a thousand agricultural engineers, hundreds of professionals with master's and doctoral degrees who are contributing to the development of agriculture in the Maule region, Chile, and the world.

In its 28-year history, this academic unit has been a benchmark in agricultural training since its inception in 1988 as part of the Faculty of Natural Resources. Currently, the six research centers generate significant scientific contributions and insights with strong ties to the productive and industrial sectors.

"The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences has been a benchmark in the training of professionals in agronomy since its inception in 1988 and subsequently as a faculty in 1996. With high standards, the faculty has achieved accreditation in undergraduate and graduate programs, strengthening its prestige nationally and internationally.

This academic unit stands out for its impact on research and innovation, promoting sustainable and modern agriculture with a comprehensive approach based on the integration of agricultural sciences with advanced technologies, which allows for the optimization of the efficient and sustainable use of natural resources. Furthermore, its research generates practical solutions that address current challenges such as climate change, soil conservation, and water management, reaffirming its leadership and relevance in the academic and productive fields.

Located on the Colchagua Campus and affiliated with the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, the Technical Training School of the University of Talca offers four advanced programs: Advanced Technician in Administration, Advanced Technician in Wine Tourism, Advanced Technician in Viticulture, and Advanced Technician in Winemaking and Oenology.

The Advanced Technician in Viticulture and Advanced Technician in Winemaking and Oenology programs are curricularly coordinated with the School of Agronomy, meaning they allow students to validate modules to continue their studies and obtain a degree in agricultural engineering.

The UTalca agricultural engineer is a professional capable of critically analyzing information, integrating knowledge, and applying it to solve problems in agricultural and food production. Professionals may hold various positions in public and private sector companies, both national and international, and may also be part of research teams.

  • The Agronomy degree is certified for 7 years.
  • It is ranked among the top 3 schools in the discipline with the highest accreditation nationwide.
  • It has a double degree agreement with L'Institut Agro Rennes-Angers in France.
  • In the final year of their study plan, students will be able to choose between articulating their studies with the Master in Horticulture or enrolling in a Minor of Specialization in one of the following areas: Fruit Growing, Viticulture, Post-Harvest, Horticultural Crops or Agro-industry.

The Master's in Horticulture focuses on the production and management of horticultural crops, covering cultivation techniques, genetic improvement, and marketing.

The PhD in Agricultural Sciences is oriented toward the training of specialized researchers, with an emphasis on generating innovative knowledge and publishing in scientific journals.

  • The Master's in Horticulture is accredited for six years. This program was launched in 2000, being the first of its kind in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.
  • Since 2013, the Agricultural and Natural Resources Economics program of the PhD in Agricultural Sciences has had a dual degree agreement with the University of Göttingen in Germany.
  • The Doctorate in Agricultural Sciences has a 6-year accreditation period.
