Faculty of Economics and Business

We are leaders in the training of professionals in the fields of economics and administration. Through research that focuses on social innovation and sustainable development, among other values, we contribute to the growth of our region and the country.

The origins of the Faculty of Economics and Business date back to the sixties, with the emergence of the University Center in Talca, headquarters of the State Technical University and after from the University of Chile. Following community efforts, in October 1981 was founded la UTalca, they countat the beginning with a career as a Public Accountant and Auditor. 

Since 1987, following the creation of the Commercial Engineering program, the Faculty of Business Administration, now the Faculty of Economics and Business, was established.  

In its 38 years of history, this academic institution stands out as one of the best schools in the country in the field of economics and administration. FEN has 100% of its professors with master's and/or doctoral degrees, more than 6 graduates working in public and private organizations, and 25 active exchange programs with foreign universities.  

The Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Talca stands out for its high-quality training in economics, administration, and computer science, with more than 1700 undergraduate and graduate students and more than 6000 graduates.

We have an excellent academic staff, combined with first-class infrastructure and access to advanced technology for comprehensive training. We contribute cutting-edge research and high-impact projects at the national and international levels. Furthermore, we strengthen our connections with the community and promote women's leadership and participation in the economic and business world.

This academic unit offers programs in Business Engineering, Business Information Technology Engineering, Auditing and Management Control Engineering, and Certified Public Accountant at the Talca Campus.  

Undergraduate education has evolved along the lines of continuous improvement, adapting and deepening its focus on new business practices, diverse teaching methods, and technological advancement. 

  • UTalca's Business Computer Engineering program is unique in Chile.
  • The Commercial Engineering student must choose between the Specialization in Administration or Economics in the fifth year of the degree.
  • The Audit and Management Control Engineering program dates back to the 60s and is the legacy of the State Technical University and the University of Chile, Talca campus.
  • UTalca's first postgraduate program was the Master's in Business Administration in 1995.
  • The Faculty currently offers 5 Master's programs.
  • The PhD in Economics was created in 2017 and has a three-year accreditation period.
  • The Master's in Management and Public Policy is accredited for 5 years.
  • In March 2026, classes will begin for the Master's program in Governance, Innovation, and Public Management.
  • The PhD program in Management will accept applications until December 14, 2025.
