The mission of this academic unit is to create and disseminate the discipline through cutting-edge research in undergraduate and graduate education. It also seeks to contribute to the development of science through a strong focus on the regional educational community and national and international collaboration networks.
The research areas developed by this Institute are Algebra and Number Theory, Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Physics, and Algebraic Geometry.
+ As an outreach activity, the Institute conducts Math Olympiads for elementary and secondary school students.
+ Develops summer and winter schools for teachers and students around topics of the discipline.

The Master of Science in Mathematics was created in 2004. This program trains professionals with a solid disciplinary foundation, whose ultimate goal is research development with continued studies in a PhD in Mathematics. It is currently accredited for eight years.
The PhD in Mathematics began operating in 2006 with the aim of training researchers who will contribute to the development of national mathematical sciences and who will serve as academics in higher education.
