UTalca and University of Pennsylvania choirs presented an unprecedented concert
The choral gathering was organized by the American Academy of Science and Technology and our institution's School of Music.
Our University Choir and the Penn Glee Club of the University of Pennsylvania performed in the Great Hall of the Bicentennial Building.
The activity was organized by the School of Music in conjunction with the American Academy of Science and Technology, an international partnership between UTalca and the U.S. Embassy in Chile. The partnership seeks to encourage children and young people to learn about diverse cultures and broaden their perspectives outside of Chile.
The dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Music, and Design at UTalca, Andrés Maragaño Leveque, highlighted the opportunity for connection that developed at our institution. "Seeing this multiculturalism, this blend of people from different backgrounds singing a single work, is very powerful from a symbolic perspective," he said.
During the concert, attendees enjoyed works of diverse styles, which demonstrated the interpretive versatility of both groups.
Danae Tapia Silva, a member of our university choir, emphasized the cultural exchange generated by the concert. “It was important because we heard a different sound besides the one we work on here in the UTalca choir.”
Penn Glee Club member Sarah Usandivaras expressed her excitement about participating in the event. "We've never done anything like this, singing with other people from another university. We're so happy to be here."
It's worth noting that the concert was enjoyed by both the local and international community. "I thought it was beautiful, very nice, it was truly fascinating. I never expected something so beautiful," said Amaro Morgado, a student from the Talca High School of Culture and Artistic Diffusion.
Meanwhile, Rosa Vásquez, a teacher at the Melián School in Maule, praised the invitation. “I want to thank the University of Talca and the United States Embassy for the opportunity to come here and see the Penn Glee Club and the University of Talca choir. It truly is a privilege and a great learning experience for future singers in our country.”
