Located in the heritage building of the University of Talca's Main Building, the NUGA Art Gallery is a space that promotes learning, exchange, research, and cultural intervention for the development of the region. The gallery's infrastructure is notable for the oval connection between the lobby and the basement, an architectural design that further emphasizes its purpose as an artistic and cultural landmark.
First floor
Pérez-Stephens Collection “Art, A Public Good”
On its first floor, the NUGA Gallery houses the exhibition "Art, a Public Good," from the Pérez-Stephens Collection, donated on loan to the University of Talca by the former rector of the University of Chile, Víctor Pérez, and his wife, Carmen Stephens. The collection includes works by the most prominent exponents of Chilean modern art, many of them national prizewinners. The gallery displays more than 270 works, representing the total number of paintings included in the Pérez-Stephens Collection.
Thanks to a strong educational program, NUGA not only houses the artworks, but has also become a space for meeting, learning, and sharing experiences for children, families, and urban and rural communities. Students and teachers find NUGA a place to learn and educate through various educational programs and activities.
Underground
Shaw-Zegers Textile Collection
The basement of the NUGA Gallery houses the collection donated to the House of Studies by art collector Edward Shaw and his wife, artist Bernardita Zegers. It consists of more than 600 ceremonial textiles and a set of ritual objects from the most diverse countries in the world, constituting a heritage of incalculable value, made available to the Maule and national communities.
Exhibition "The Color of Chileanness" by Pedro Olmos
"The Color of Chileanness" is the title of the exhibition by Maule landscape master Pedro Olmos, with which the University of Talca invites the community to its new visual arts space in the basement of the NUGA Gallery. This new space is part of a project to restore spaces in the heritage building that houses UTalca's Central Office (formerly the Plaza Hotel).
The exhibition consists of works developed by the painter in the Maule region, where he lived—with his wife Emma Jauch, a great artist and poet of the region—from 1958 until his death. These works are part of the collection that Pedro Olmos donated to the University of Talca.
