MORE THAN 1200 PEOPLE TOURED A RENEWED BOTANICAL GARDEN
AROUND A LIGHT AND SOUNDS SHOW, THE COMMUNITY GATHERED TO LEARN ABOUT THE IMPROVEMENTS IN INFRASTRUCTURE THAT WERE CARRIED OUT IN THE PARK.
November 4, 2016
With a novel and for the whole family show, which highlighted its qualities as a natural laboratory, were inaugurated the new facilities of the Botanical Garden of the University of Talca. The activity was free of cost, open to the public and it sought to invite the community to know the new attractions available at the park, among which there are two artificial lagoons, improvements in the entry access, new signs and workshops on biodiversity.
The complex is considered to be the most interesting place to visit in Talca, according to the TripAdvisor web site specialized in promoting the main attractions of the cities around the world. To give greater importance to the works, a ceremony was held headed by regional and university authorities, who shared a tour accompanied by music. "Our University belongs to the community and we must work for it creating consciousness where not everybody has the possibility of touching and living nature. This contribution enables the family, instead of walking through a mall, to walk in the open air and find trees that are our own native flora", emphasized the president of our Corporation, Alvaro Rojas.
Among the participants who made the tour, families, students, children and many foreigners could be seen. "I had come before, but not at night, and all lit it looks very nice. It is something very special for all the people who attended today," said Claudia Dazza, from Colombia. His countryman David Ramirez, who is a student at the University, also had words to describe the event. "Very well lit and for us, students, is a space to rest and breathe a little, making a stop after being in the classroom and the laboratory", he said.
The main attraction of the day was the sensory circuit through the various environments in the garden, featured with light waves and live music, which constituted a unique experience that made it possible to consider the fauna and the flora of the place, for the first time at night. "Our Botanical Garden is a public space that the University of Talca placed at the disposal of the Maulean people to know plant species, where conservation and education join in a single space designed for families", said Ivan Coydan, director of University Social Responsibility (RSU) of the University of Talca.
Although the garden is already 15 years-old, a renewal was missing from the point of view of the structure to underline its importance in the field of sustainability. The Seremi of Environment, Mary Eliana Vega, said that "for the people of Talca it is important to take this green area as a point of entertainment and the reality is that there are few spaces of this type where families can participate in, therefore I congratulate the University of Talca for the initiative," she emphasized.
Reopening of the arboretum
The improvements in the botanical garden will be complemented with the future reopening of the arboretum, so as to renew and maintain the green lungs of a citizen sharing space. President Rojas talked about the projects that are planned in the area of ties with the community. "This is a 15-year work already, we know an arboretum takes half a century to build, but that which we have introduced, we have improved, we are making better paths and irrigation system, installing two playing complexes for children so that families can come, have fun and have a good reason to spend a weekend in contact with trees, as families are currently living in smaller spaces. In this way the University makes an open invitation, free of cost, so that especially children come to the University to enjoy nature" he stressed.
